Little Creek Shawl

About this Pattern 
This is a bottom-up triangular shawl that starts with just 8 stitches and builds up and out each row with a 2x2 rib. The rib is opened up with carefully placed yarn-overs that are knitted over a 12 row repeat and then dropped to create the open, water-like flowing pattern. 
I designed this to be a project you can easily pick up and put down, always knowing where you’re at no matter how much time has passed. It’s perfect for parents who are constantly being interrupted by kids, for anyone who likes to take a project on-the-go, and it’s a great palate cleanser if you like to have something simple to knit between more complex projects. Once you’re through those initial set-up rows, you will know what to do just by looking at the stitches on your needle. If ‘reading’ your work sounds a little intimidating, please don’t worry! I’ve included a guide in the help section at the end of this pattern on how to figure out where you’re at just by looking at your work.
Skills Needed 
The most important skill is being able to drop stitches (which, thankfully, every knitter is great at whether they want to be or not!). You need to be able to cast on, bind off, knit and purl. There is right and left increasing on every row and I’ve provided video links in the glossary section if you’re not sure how to do these. Whilst not a required skill, knowing your knit stitches from your purls will be very helpful in following the pattern and ‘reading’ your work. Again, if you’re not sure, I’ve provided a guide in the help section at the end of this pattern.
Dimension 
The finished triangle is 155cm/61” in width and 45cm/17.6” in depth.
Gauge 
22 stitches and 30 rows = 4” in K2, P2 Rib.
Over 4 inches, I had 2 repeats of the pattern vertically and 3 repeats horizontally.
IMPORTANT: Whilst gauge doesn’t always need to be perfect when knitting shawls, you should note that I am a tight knitter, so if you knit this without checking gauge, you are likely to get a larger finished object than me and may require more yarn than I used.

Colour A: Wildcard/Viper* 45g used. 
Colour B: Bloom: 65g used. 
Colour C: Beach Bunny: 55g used.
Viper is a non-repeatable colourway. I’ve found Wildcard to be very similar. Just ask your supplier to find you a skein with more green than yellow if you want to recreate my version.
All up, I’ve used 165g - close to 2 skeins of Skinny Singles. You can use full skeins like me or you can go through your leftovers and pick out a nice fade, weighing your partial skeins to make sure you’ll have enough. I’d probably go for 180g of partial skeins just to be on the safe side, but I’m a very cautious knitter!
The stitch pattern is really brought to life with a saturated colour, so don’t feel like you have to fade. I’m currently knitting a second shawl in a neutral shade and it is BEAUTIFUL!
Needles 
3.75mm (US Size 5) 120cm/47” Circulars. You can knit this on 100cm or even 80cm circular needles. I prefer the longer cable for stretching out my work. I used needles with a sharp tips because it makes knitting the increases easier. (especially the M1L purl increase).
